In previous article we read about the usage of water and its benefits. In our health inspiration series we continue with other important ingredient of a healthy lifestyle; Exercise and Nutrition. Human body is meant to work and when it remains inactive, it leads to boredom and that is a sure shot recipe for a poisonous internal body mechanism.

Yet, people take their body for granted and that’s the biggest insult to this great creation of God. Why do we need to have regular exercise sessions? Benefits are numerous (looking good is just one of the advantages!). Few of them are;

·        Muscle building and fat burning.

·        Improved blood circulation, leading to a healthy mind and body.

·        All round benefits in every part of the body including muscles and bones, lungs, joints, heart, brains, blood vessels, and other body parts.

·        Increased metabolism.

·        Helps in removing negative thoughts and other psychic factors like depression and frustration.

·        Increase in energy and enthusiasm.

·        Getting rid of the lactic acid and other fatigue poisons from the body.

·        Keeps stress and anxiety at bay, thus paves way for a more fulfilling life style.

·        Increased function of elimination in bowels and other organs

·        Enhanced HDL cholesterol level and reduction in LDL levels.

·        Strengthens body parts and in few cases has also proved crucial in dealing with stiff joints, arthritis, and limbs.

And finally, one starts feeling much better and looking much more beautiful. Enough reasons for us to start a healthy living by committing ourselves to a healthy exercise regimen.

One of the oldest proverbs says, ‘Health is wealth’! Our body is our temple and it needs to be cared, loved and respected because it signifies our existence. But not every human is health conscious. People take their body for granted. But one must start taking utmost care of ones’ body. Our body is 70-75% water and bloodstream is 55% liquid plasma, again mostly water. That gives us a fair idea about importance of water in our body mechanism.

The nutrients we generally eat in form of foods and supplements are heavily dependent on transportation facility of water so that all parts of our body get its required diet. No wonder, right from circulation, assimilation to digestion and elimination; all important processes need water. Doctors always recommend having adequate water drinking habit, non compliance of which might lead to problems like fatigue and other diseases. Instead of having beverages like coffee, juice, herbal supplements, tea or soda one should focus on drinking at least six to eight classes of water every day.

Less amount of water causes stagnation of poisonous waste tissues in our body. Absorption of foods is much better with proper usage of water on regular intervals. One should always drink water well before any meal or after one hour of the meal. It’s also recommended to have a certain amount of water every hour in the day. It helps in better absorption of food, glowing skin, and safety from various other diseases etc.

So let’s take a healthy inspiration for a healthy living!

Be Thankful

When should we celebrate? It’s when we are winning? Or it’s when we are having things our way? ‘Yes’, would be the general answer. Of course, feelings like winning, achievement gives us a high and we should always celebrate those occasions. We should also be thankful to the world in general for the happiness we are experiencing. But what about the moments of despair? Sorrow? Defeat? Should we sulk?

Well, no is the answer. Never, in fact. Those very sad emotions teach us so many things which we actually tend to implement in our winning moments. I will be sharing a movie poem which says, we should always be thankful, no matter what are the feelings we are experiencing.

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.

If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something,

for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.

During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,

because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,

because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary,

Because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things.

A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who

are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,

and they can become your blessings.

The Right Attitude

What is that one attribute that counts the most in human existence? Hope, love, wealth, charity or is there something bigger? Yes, its attitude! It’s not difficult to realize the impact of attitude in our day to day life. Sometimes, attitude is more important than facts. In fact, it is more important than any other thing like money, education, situations etc. the most important thing is we have a choice regarding the attitude we will wear for a particular day. It has been said that, life is all about 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we react to those happenings.

This motivational poem emphasizes the importance of attitude in our life.

Often your tasks will be many,

And more than you think you can do.

Often the road will be rugged

And the hills insurmountable, too.

But always remember,

The hills ahead

Are never as steep as they seem,

And with Faith in your heart

Start upward

And climb ’til you reach your dream.

For nothing in life that is worthy

Is ever too hard to achieve

If you have the courage to try it,

And you have the faith to believe.

For faith is a force that is greater

Than knowledge or power or skill,

And many defeats turn to triumph

If you trust in God’s wisdom and will.

For faith is a mover of mountains,

There’s nothing that God cannot do,

So, start out today with faith in your heart,

And climb ’til your dream comes true!

Seeds of Wisdom

Whenever we look back at history, it reveals something and whenever we look forward to future, we find that something is waiting to be unveiled. Its miracle of life that we have choices aplenty and we also have free will to choose the path, though the destination is simply one. Sages said, “What you think you are, you are. Dare to be what you think you want to be”. This thought came across while reading this inspirational story which I would like to share with everyone.

The Emperor’s Seed

An emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or his children, he decided something different.

He called young people in the kingdom together one day. He said, “It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you.”

The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued. “I am going to give each one of you a seed today, one very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next emperor!”

One boy named Ling was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the story. She helped him get a pot and planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully.

Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about 3 weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Ling kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks went by. Still nothing.

By now, others were talking about their plants but Ling didn’t have a plant, and he felt like a failure. 6 months went by; still nothing in Ling’s pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing.

Ling didn’t say anything to his friends. He just kept waiting for his seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection.

Ling told his mother that he wasn’t going to take an empty pot but his Mother said he must be honest about what happened. Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his Mother was right.

He took his empty pot to the palace. When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other youths. They were beautiful, in all shapes and sizes. Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the other kinds laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, “Hey nice try.”

When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. “My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown,” said the emperor. “Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!”

All of a sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified. “The emperor knows I’m a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!”

When Ling got to the front, the Emperor asked his name. “My name is Ling,” he replied. All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to quiet down.

He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, “Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!” Ling couldn’t believe it. Ling couldn’t even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor?

Then the emperor said, “One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds, which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you.

Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!”

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust.

If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.

If you plant humility, you will reap greatness.

If you plant perseverance, you will reap victory.

If you plant consideration, you will reap harmony.

If you plant hard work, you will reap success.

If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation.

If you plant openness, you will reap intimacy.

If you plant patience, you will reap improvements.

If you plant faith, you will reap miracles.

But:

If you plant dishonesty, you will reap distrust.

If you plant selfishness, you will reap loneliness.

If you plant pride, you will reap destruction.

If you plant envy, you will reap trouble.

If you plant laziness, you will reap stagnation.

If you plant bitterness, you will reap isolation.

If you plant greed, you will reap loss.

If you plant gossip, you will reap enemies.

If you plant worries, you will reap wrinkles.

If you plant sin, you will reap guilt.
