Creating Balance in Your Life

Our life never goes in a smooth curve. We tend to face several ups and downs in the fascinating journey of life. It does not much time to gravitate from ecstasy to despair. Things that are taking place in the outside world are beyond our control. We cannot make things run on our whims and fancies but yes, we can always strive towards maintaining balance. Balance is defined as “creating a state of harmony among all the elements of your day, your week and your life”. It’s a blessing to make balance your habit. If you are balanced, it represents a state of equilibrium where one can be more poised and feel stable.

Humans are destined to perform several functions in a day. If we don’t create a sense of delegation, we will find it tough to maintain balance and without balance, there can’t be any peace and harmony. Life cannot be carried in a comforting state without presence of balance. One needs to take certain actions to achieve this essential feat. The first requirement is to control your life and your actions. You cannot change the events taking place in your surroundings but yes, you can always change your actions and reactions.

One must live his life; he or she finds it fit. The first priority should be you and then only all others. If you cannot make yourself happy, nobody else can. Its futile to think of what others are saying or thinking. It will drain you of your energy and time. Just keep doing your work. Change is inevitable so accept the changes whenever they come your way. Don’t resist changes. A routine life makes thing much easier. Try making a to-do list every night and complete them the following day.

Anger

Forgiveness is a great virtue to have. It has been said that “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” How true! The need of forgiveness arises from anger. Anger because few expectations have not been met or you have been betrayed or you have been robed of some deserving rewards. But thinking of it, isn’t anger a very interesting emotion? We humans are supposed to experience all sort of emotions. And emotions are as varied as they come. But as per society’s dictum we are not supposed to express all the negative emotions. Rather we have been taught to deny some so called negative emotions.

It has been ingrained in us that getting rid of anger is one of the most important aspects of our lives. Society preaches us these thing and we are expected to listen to them. But what is the fallout of such sin of suppression? Anger is not a bad thing as such. What is bad, however is holding anger inside you without providing it a let out. Have you ever noticed that sometimes we suppress anger for hours, days or even years and that result in unpleasant scenarios? Suppressing our anger has such deep roots that quite often we even forget that we are holding onto a potent weapon. But remember anger always manifests itself in some form or other. It would be foolhardy to underestimate the potency of this weapon. We will further dwell on this subject in coming articles.

Changing Core Beliefs

core_values_r3_c1The concept of core beliefs holds a very significant importance in any human’s life. It has been said that our physical foundation refers to core stability or alignment of our movement whereas mental or psychological foundation is represented by our core beliefs. Core beliefs tend to develop into a set way, a set pattern as we grow older.  The question that comes in my mind is whether we are well supported by our beliefs? Do beliefs play their role in making us go where we want to be?

We have our beliefs intact in the same place since so many years. But sometimes, we need to recognize that core beliefs have played their part and are no longer instrumental in any sort of development and growth. We need to learn skills that can identify such beliefs and guide us where and how to proceed. The biggest limitation towards the journey of change and transformation is the thought that we can not change. Thinking that, we have been designed this way and we will continue to perform like this forever. Wrong. It does not happen that way.

If you look deep inside you will find that some of the beliefs no longer support you in your cause or should I say greater goal. Just looking at your potential and thinking that what wonder can I achieve if I change few of my core beliefs. Life would start appearing more meaningful. It’s all about you believing in whatever you want to believe. Trust me; the results will more than surprise you, of course in a positive way.

Just Listen

Listen. When people are talking, when the birds are chirping in the morning, when your dad is expressing an opinion, when your sister is confessing something, when the maid is expressing her grief, when your girl friend is talking about her pimples, when your brother is demanding a new bike, when your niece is calling you, when…just listen.

Sometimes, just listening can be a great way to soothe the other person. Plain listening, not talking back means that you are trying to understand the other person. You may or may not necessarily agree to what they have to say. It does not matter. What matters is the fact that you are listening. You are lending them your ears, your time and then surely make the opposite person feel there is somebody who is there to listen to them. There are many talkers in this world but there are very few listeners.

May be what the other person is saying is full of mistakes, full of distortions; it is important not to correct the person then. Listen with sincerity. It won’t kill you. You do not need to prove your point here. Just listen.

A good listener is the one that hears the unspoken thought. Only after the other person has finished mention that innermost thought. This will make the other person feel that you heard him and that you understood what he or she was trying to say. Listen. There is nothing quite like being heard.

Fear of Losing

One of the worst fears that come to a human mind is fear of losing. It’s a hard feeling to accept. But how hard we try; we can not make someone stick with us forever. Sooner or later something drastic is bound to happen. If not any misunderstanding or personal problem then the eventual reality of death is sure to part our ways with our loved ones. Death is the ultimate truth that can not be negated or denied. So how should we approach it? Isn’t it as simple as accepting it much beforehand and create a mindset that will allow us to remain our balance even during worst of conditions.

Realizing that parting is imminent opens another stage towards acceptance of this bitter reality. At the same time, it also gives us a chance to think positively. Knowing that end is nearer so why not make the relationship more beautiful and special. We can always travel that extra yard to make other persons feel special. It could just be a simple visit or a phone call or even a letter or personal e-mail. We don’t need to do magic to make other feel good. The basic and simple things are most endearing one. Remember, when a relationship was formed it was because of the fact that both sides found some similarities and goodness in each other. There were no flashy signs of affection or sky didn’t thunder when you formed a particular relationship. Relationship grows out of mutual respect, admiration and understanding. So let’s just keep these facts in mind and make our relationships special without any fear of losing them.

Personality grooming is a very important concept in current times. Often, how we present ourselves, how we talk or even how we stand makes all the difference in giving a clue of our personalities. One must take care of his posture. People tend to observe how you stand, how you walk and stand etc. So one should make sure to stand upright, walk straight with eyes looking firmly ahead and chest puffed up slightly. One should make sure not to slump his shoulders while walking. Slouching is not a good indication so stand up straight.

Taking care of health is very important for any human being. A healthy person appears more confident and positive. One should make sure not to abuse his body by indulging in drugs, alcohol or smoking. Also unhealthy foods should be avoided. Proper exercise regimen is very helpful in enhancing self confidence and self –esteem. When you are healthy, you look good and that result in getting compliments and finally enhanced self-belief.

Eye contact is very important in our day to day lives. Whenever we talk to people, we should always focus on making eye contacts. That shows self confidence as well as sincerity. It’s always recommended to gaze into the person’s eyes while making conversations. However, there is a catch. Just don’t keep staring at the other person. Shifting your gaze occasionally then again making eye contact is a better idea.  This makes one appear interested, confident and sincere as well.

Self-Confidence

confidenceOne common element amongst all successful people is ‘Self confidence’. We often talk about positive attitude, hope, ambition, and several such factors, but without the presence of self confidence, everything will remain just theory. Self confidence plays a pivotal role in carrying out all the necessary steps in life. Whether its about achieving our goals or fulfilling some dreams, self confidence is the key.

There are several ways, one can gain self confidence. The first and foremost step is knowing one’s true self. One must be aware of his talents, limitations, shortcomings, specialties etc.  Once the person make himself aware of his true self, he can thought out and execute his plans as well. Knowing self helps you in charging towards your goal with utmost confidence and achieving things will become much easier to you. One should know himself thoroughly apart from observing and discovering self. One should always strive to focus more on his talents rather than worrying about his flaws. Once the process of discovering one’s special skills is done, one can move towards taking concrete steps.

We humans are flawed in several aspects so it’s not a good idea to expect perfection in each and every behavior of ours. However, it pays big time to observe things about self like temper, nervousness, shyness, extrovert or introvert etc. knowing these aspects will create positive traits and enhance one’s confidence. One of the best ways to increase self confidence is to indulge in some enjoyable stuff. Many people love to read or write or listening music or playing some sports etc. Indulging in these activities makes one happy and also enhances self confidence.

Finding Your Talents

Talent is one of the most overused words in our daily lives. Wherever you go, academics circles, professional group, family talks, talent almost always manages to become one definite topic. Talent is an important element in any person’s life. We all are bestowed with some sort of talent. Talent can be related to any aspect of our personality including intellect, technical, physical or artistic or anything. It’s our duty to unearth our hidden talents and use them in a maximum positive way. But not many of us are able to find the true talents hidden within. It’s a long process identifying the true talents but one need to go for it because of its great implications on our future.

The process of identifying talents starts with observation of one’s own self. It’s definitely a tricky process which needs to be analyzed. One needs to observe his interests in different things. It could be favorite shows, preferred reads, what one likes to watch or what section of the newspaper one prefers to read etc. This helps in giving the direction. Once you are able to find your interests try to find out what things you are passionate about. One may be interested in several things but in reality one is passionate about only one or two things. Try to find that. Also try to do different things of your interest. Once you do them, perform them you will get to know does that thing really interest you. After that, self improvement is the next step. Try to learn new things about your passion and discover all the hidden skills. Also focus upon your weaknesses and finally the end result will give you your true hidden talents.

Happy New Year Prayer

Welcome to the year 2009. A brand new year with lots of hope, optimism and need to keep our motivation high even during turbulent times. Year 2008 is gone and now we can reflect back upon the passed year and can analyze and realize what went right and what could have gone right. Let’s start this New Year with a prayer on our lips and strength in our hearts. I will be sharing this wonderful prayer with you and I wish you all good luck for this coming year.

I do not pray for peace,

Nor ask that on my path

The sounds of war shall shrill no more,

The way be clear of wrath.

But this I beg thee, Lord,

Steel Thou my heart with might,

And in the strife that men call life,

Grant me the strength to fight.

I do not pray for arms,

Nor shield to cover me.

What though I stand with empty hand,

So it be valiantly!

Spare me the coward’s fear–

Questioning wrong or right:

Lord, among these mine enemies,

Grant me the strength to fight.

I do not pray that Thou

Keep me from any wound,

Though I fall low from thrust and blow,

Forced fighting to the ground;

But give me wit to hide

My hurt from all men’s sight,

And for my need the while I bleed,

Lord, grant me strength to fight.

I do not pray that Thou

Shouldst grant me victory;

Enough to know that from my foe

I have no will to flee.

Beaten and bruised and banned,

Flung like a broken sword,

Grant me this thing for conquering–

Let me die fighting, Lord!

Motivation works on several platforms and in different aspects of life. Inspiration is something which is mostly self-developed and some other times, we need some sort of external spark or rekindle that inspirational ting. If we take corporate field as an example, one of the most important tasks for a manager is to motivate his employees. In fact, keeping the morale high on a consistent basis is not an easy job. But then, a manager has to perform it or else repercussions can be too damaging. Inspiring your employees also signifies creating a positive work environment and keeping the mood light.

The manager must begin with knowing his employees. It pays to know about the personal aspects of employees including his interests, family, after work routine etc. the thing is different people are motivated by different things so knowing an employee well means, a manager can work upon the things which might prove useful in motivating that particular employee.

A manager should always try to spend some time with his employees. It won’t take more than few minutes per day. But it signifies you are interested in your employees and personally concerned with their well-beings. That means a lot for the employees. Another method is to arrange for periodic reviews every now and then where you can sit with employees and talk about professional and personal hazards.

A manager should focus upon knowing new things in motivation aspects. Being a manager it’s of prime responsibility to keep learning new things. Sharing management things with employees also indicate generating motivation amongst employees. Apart from that one should try to know the feelings of employees about his job.
